Divine Rebel Yoga Class Etiquette:

It takes all of us to maintain the integrity of the Divine Rebel Yoga experience. Please see below for student expectations and responsibilities.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

  • Arrive on time, about 5-10 minutes before class start time, and place your mat in a designated spot

  • We know that life happens, and sometimes you run behind. We do allow a brief grace period if we know that you are on your way. Enter quietly and allow the teacher to direct you to a space. Roll out your mat quietly/do not let it slap down onto the floor.

  • Need to leave early? Inform the teacher prior to class. Exit quietly before Savasana, taking your personal items, but leaving props out for the teacher to put away after class

SHOES

  • Absolutely NO shoes on the practice space before AND after class

  • Remove shoes at the check-in area BEFORE claiming your spot

  • After class, gather all personal items from your spot before putting your shoes back on

  • Again, NO shoes on the practice space: this one is a big deal, can you tell?

BEFORE CLASS

  • Silence or turn off all electronic devices, to include smart watches. Even better yet… leave them in the car!

  • If we have a larger class size, the teacher may ask students to shift their placement; be flexible in moving to where the teacher requests

  • Inform the teacher of any past/present injuries that may affect your ability to participate in class

DURING CLASS

We are a tight-knit community and often have smaller class sizes, which fosters organic interaction during class that makes the Divine Rebel Yoga experience special. That being said, please remember that yoga is not only a physical practice, but also one of mindfulness, an opportunity for students to move their attention inward. We kindly ask that you refrain from the following:

  • directing or telling another student how to do a posture (this includes a friend or family member)

  • complaints about sequence progression and/or teacher choice of postures

  • voicing your own physical experience throughout class

  • a rogue yoga practice; adapt or opt out of what doesn’t serve you, but do not engage in an entirely different sequence

Ultimately, we ask that you maintain focus on your practice and minimize any unnecessary chatter and/or distraction in order to support others in staying focused on their practice. In addition, please respect that the teacher spends valuable time planning each class and has their own sound reason for sequence progression. Comments, questions, or feedback are best reserved after class is completed, if time allows.

AFTER CLASS

  • Gather all personal items and clear your practice space in a timely manner

  • Return all props to their appropriate locations after class: blocks in pairs, bolsters upright behind bench, straps rolled with buckle inside and placed in drawers

  • Blankets folded the Divine Rebel way and placed neatly in cabinet (the blankets are as much of a thing as the shoes, so they get their own item line)

  • Leave teacher props as they are. We appreciate the gesture to help, but we sometimes stay after class to enjoy our own practice or we have another class to teach

ADDITIONAL

  • Practice good hygiene and keep perfume/cologne/lotions to a minimum

  • Children under the age of 13 will not be allowed to participate in class; minors must be accompanied by an adult

  • Non-participating guests will not be allowed to sit in on class
